Thank-you … #IrishFoodBlogger

Last month, I won Best Food Review Blog at the Blog Awards Ireland 2017. Genuinely shocked, I had no expectation of wining, actually of even placing if I’m honest. There are so many fantastic food bloggers in Ireland, so to know that people think Gin & Griddle is worthy and in fact one of the best, is quite nice. Thank-you…for reading, commenting, sharing and being part of something I love.

Awards are definitely not the reason to blog but I’m very appreciative of the acknowledgment. I blog about food & drink because it’s a passion. Without doubt, in the time I’ve been blogging on Gin & Griddle (over 4 years!), my knowledge and understanding of food has grown. I’ve learned lots and seen a huge change in the Gin market, from just 2 Irish gins to the many of today. Dublin has changed a lot in this time too. Now in 2017, new openings abound, restaurants, bars, cafes and everything in between.

I’ve gone through periods of blogging lots, and then not so much. I used to beat myself up about not writing or tweeting or Instagramming but realized that this is my hobby, not my job. I have one of those, that keeps me very busy. Whereas for me, Gin & Griddle is my outlet, my happy place. Whether it’s writing a blog post, chatting on Twitter, putting a nice photo on Instagram, the interaction and conversation is always lovely and what makes me proud to be an #IrishFoodBlogger …

Blogging on Gin & Griddle is not a one woman activity, there’s two of us in it, sampling, tasting, visiting restaurants, trying new gins, going to events. While he also manages a lot of the technical side … Plugins, themes and widgets, making sure the site works well and is backed-up (most important!). He also writes the odd post or two…

With this post, I wanted to celebrate the award as I’m really very proud of it but I didn’t want it to be just about that. So I thought I’d take the opportunity to appreciate the Irish food blogs and bloggers that I love to read and engage with. I highly recommend following each and every one of these if you’re not already.

Stitch and Bear – Joanne Cronin

One of the longer running Irish food blogs, Joanne is one very knowledgeable lady on all things food and wine. Her writing style is gorgeous, with evocative descriptions of wonderful food, wine and cocktails. When Joanne publishes a blog post I always click through for a read and her recommendations are invariably spot on. | @dudara

Proper Food – Katia Valadeau

Katia is one of the most engaged members of the Irish Food Blogging communbity, giving so freely of her time and energy to facebook groups, maintaining a great blog and always with an amazing photo on her instagram of a Gin & Tonic … Of course there’s recipes on Proper Food, and I’ve made a few of them too. One of my go to blogs for honest and real food and opinions, and the gin recommendations! | @ProperFood_ie

GastroGays – Patrick Hanlon & Russell Alford

The very lovely & talented bloggers Patrick & Russell (aka GastroGays) are on this list too of course. They kindly collected the award for me at the Irish Blog Awards and met me the following week to present it to me… their blog and social media is always fun, lots of food posts but also great travel tips and recommendations. Oh and if Eurovision is your thing, you will LOVE them! I have a soft spot for the GastroGays, genuine, honest and passionate about what they do.

Eat Drink Run Fun – Rory Carrick

From movies to wine, food and travel, Eat Drink Run Fun is an eclectic and fun mix and Rory is one of the nicest people you will meet too…I love his instagram pics, there’s lots of selfies, and always some humour! | @EatDrinkRunFun

Beautiful food photography always captures my attention on Donna’s posts. A Cookbook Collection is a veritable feast of gorgeous recipes and food. Always happy to give suggestions and ideas too, comment on blog posts and engage, I really enjoy Donna’s recipes and the useful tips she includes.

Kate’s Kabin – Kate Barry

Way way back, when I first started blogging, I met Kate via twitter, she was food blogging too, we got chatting, and have stayed friends. We meet in real life sometimes too, for food (of course) and wine (or gin!). Kate’s blog and social media channels are equally food and yoga and even though the latter is not for me, her pictures and videos are fab! And she’s just the loveliest person too…

Home after a fab week in Croatia and now it's time to settle back into some routine for the Autumn/Winter months! 🍂 My new class blocks in @resolutepilates start back next Tuesday and Thursday, I have a class for Absolute Beginners, a Beginner/Level 1 class and also a Mixed Level or Improvers class for those with a little experience.
