Grapevine ~ Dalkey

Wine shops cum wine bars seem to be increasingly popular, from Green Man Wines in Terenure, Blackrock Cellar in Blackrock, 64 Wine in Glasthule to name a few but the one we love the most is Grapevine in Dalkey.

Formerly a small wine shop off the main thoroughfare in Dalkey, established in 1999; Grapevine moved into a new, much larger unit on Castle Street in 2016, creating a warm and inviting space. Open 7 days from 10am (Sunday from 1pm), until 8pm Monday to Wednesday and Sunday, and a later time of 11pm Thursday through Saturday.

Wine is served in beautiful Riedel glassware. Food offerings come in the form of cheese boards, charcuterie, sharing platters and snacks (try the smoked almonds!), along with lunch and coffee during the day.

With a buzzy and relaxed atmosphere, lots of seating, knowledgeable and friendly staff, it’s a really enjoyable place to spend a couple of hours, or just to pop in to pick up a bottle of something nice to have at home. The choice of wines is excellent at all price points, offering wines by the glass and bottle on the menu, but you can also pick from the shelves. It’s €7 corkage on any bottle of wine.

We nearly always ask for recommendations, and the staff, Carol, John, Gabriel and Graham, always come up with great ideas and suggestions. Like the Greek wine above, one we probably would not have picked ourselves but loved.

Grapevine, Dalkey

Grapevine is a special place, walking in you’re always warmly greeted and welcomed in. I’m really glad to see the move from the smaller premises has worked so well for them; they are a strong part of Dalkey’s village life. I know we will return again and again to Grapevine and Dalkey… Cheers!
