The Cliff Townhouse have opened a new bar in their basement space on Stephen’s Green. We dropped by at the weekend for a pre-dinner drink.
Urchin is bright and light (despite being the basement), contemporary in design with an exposed stone wall along one side. There’s a couple of really cute window tables with stools, and quirky design features like menus hanging off the back of chairs, adding a playful element. Natural woods, lots of white, with pops of blues and reds in the seating and cushions really brings it all together. We sat at the rounded end of the bar for our drink.
The wine list is excellent, interesting and different wine offerings at various price points. He chose a a glass of Riesling “Les Princes Abbes”, Domaines Schlumberger, France, 2014 at €14.00 and I chose the Albarino, Pazo de san Mauro, Spain, 2015 at €10.00. Of the red wines, I was glad to see a Spatburgunder there, as well as the Evolution 3rd Edition from the US. I know what I’ll be having next time! There’s cocktails too and what looks to be great spirit choices on the shelves behind the bar. The bar will serve food, but not just yet; I believe the food menu will be available in a few weeks.
The bar is open from 12 noon Thursday, Friday and Saturday and from 4pm other days. I know we will definitely be back soon. I loved it and recommend checking it out if you enjoy a nice glass of wine in a lovely setting.
