Having visited Firehouse Bakery before, I always meant to return to try the restaurant above it. We finally did it on a recent weekend, a celebratory one at that and enjoyed a delicious brunch and bubbles at The Pigeon House in Delgany.
The space is light filled, airy and I love the style, furniture and decor. Soft caramel, taupe and neutral colored leather, dark and light woods and just a really lovely feel throughout.
There were so many nice things on the menu it was hard to choose but feeling in more of a lunch than brunch mood I went for the salad – Chicken Bacon, Avocado, Rocket, Baby Gem, Butterhead Lettuce (€13). He had the Baked Eggs & Ham (€12) while our other guest chose the Pancakes, Bacon, Maple Syrup (€10).
The salad tasted just as good as it looks, the crunchy lettuce, tender chicken, soft avocado, crispy bacon – a mish mash of all my favourite ingredients. And accompanied by a few chips it was delicious. A side of chips for the table (€4.50) of course which he also happily dunked into his baked eggs! 3 eggs baked in a skillet pan, crispy ham on top, beautifully seasoned and cooked.
And the pancakes, wow! A stack of pancakes, topped with bacon and drizzled with syrup. Whats not to like there! We enjoyed a glass of Prosecco each to start off our brunch too (€6.50 ea.).
And we had to finish with something sweet, well one of us did anyway… a perfectly formed mini cake (€2.50). I can’t remember exactly what it was, definitely pistachio and blood orange I think…
Our total bill for 3 including a flat white and espresso as well, came to €66 (not including service). We loved our brunch at The Pigeon House. It was the perfect way to kick off a super weekend celebrating a very special person’s birthday – Happy Birthday Shelagh!
