There seems to be an abundance of breakfast and brunch posts here on Gin & Griddle lately. Here’s another one and a lovely one it is too. We popped out to the coast for an early morning walk and decided to get breakfast in Salt at Avoca. Handy too that after breakfast you can pick up some nice things in the shop to enjoy at home later.
Lots of distressed wood in mostly paler shades, muted tones and colours throughout and an overall vintage feeling in Salt. We really liked the cafe space and were eager to satisfy our post walk hunger. The name Salt comes from the Salthill area, which was named after the salt works that were once there. Breakfast is served from 9.30 on the weekends which is a nice change to the usual 11/11.30s for brunch in most places.
He chose the Open bacon sandwich with roast tomatoes, rocket & chutney (€8.95) while for me it was an easy decision – if there’s avocado and eggs there I’m going to have it… Poached eggs with avocado, grilled sourdough, roast tomatoes & salad (€8.95).
Both were really good. The bacon sandwich had lots of rashers atop a brown seeded bread and a delicious accompanying chutney (probably no need for the rocket though). The eggs were perfectly poached, a nice runny yolk. There really is something so delicious about the pairing of avocado with a poached egg – yum!
With our food, we had a cappuccino and a double espresso making our total bill (not including service) €22.45. More than reasonable for what we had. A really great little neighbourhood spot if you’re around Monkstown do pop in, definitely recommended.
