Early one Saturday morning, we were on Grafton Street, and popped into Brown Thomas to have a browse. We had planned to get breakfast at some point, but decided on a whim to head into The Restaurant at Brown Thomas. Located on the 3rd floor, it’s a beautiful space, full of light and with a luxurious feel. Coupled with the lovely decor, are menus inspired by the two-Michelin-star restaurateur Patrick Guilbaud.
It’s definitely a more formal restaurant than it has been in previous incarnations… but at the same time has a pleasant and easy atmosphere and feels like somewhere you could happily while away a couple of hours. I loved the floor tiles, beautiful design and everything felt ‘high-end’ from the comfortable seating through to the bar area and wonderful flower arrangements.
The breakfast menu is most of what you would expect from the healthy or lighter options such as fruit and granola, a few egg dishes – omelette, benedict – as well as dishes such as a full grilled breakfast and Steak & Eggs. We started with juice (€3.50) and espressos (€2.70) while we looked at the menus.
He chose ‘The Grill’ breakfast (€13.95) while I went for the Scandi Eggs (€13.95) – Smoked Salmon with Poached Egg and hollandaise sauce. His breakfast included Toasted Sourdough Bread, Grilled Tipperary Bacon, Roasted Plum Tomato, Portobello Mushroom, Irish Pork Sausage and he swapped the scrambled egg for fried. It was deemed delicious, and all polished off.
My Scandi eggs were lovely – lots of smoked salmon, topped with a perfect poached egg, runny yolk and just the right amount of hollandaise and served with 2 slices of toasted seeded brown bread.
Our total bill excluding service came to €37.30. We thoroughly enjoyed breakfast at The Restaurant in Brown Thomas, not something for every day but a nice treat, and just a lovely setting. We will definitely be back.
