Here we are at the end of 2014 – what a year for food and drink happening and openings in Dublin. So many new places popping up along with the mainstays of the city. For a foodie, this is a great place to be living at the moment… I’ve a massively long list of places I would like to visit in the next few months!
Back to the year that has passed, here’s Gin & Griddle’s favourites both home and away…
Beeftro, Dundrum Town Centre (and newly opened in Balfe Street, Dublin 2). With many many visits to Beeftro, a wonderful early bird menu, a great Corbieres on their wine list, Beeftro is undoubtedly one of our favourite regular spots.
Staying in Dundrum Ananda is a star of our year! We have been there quite a few times, enjoyed the tasting menu more than a couple, its a huge favourite with us for everything – the food, the people, the place. If you haven’t been put Ananda on your 2015 list pronto!
Moving into the city, a few favourites stand out from our year – one older, longer standing place that still delivers each time, La Maison on Castlemarket, along with the newer ones, Saison and Etto were both standouts!
More than a few visits to the The Exchequer Wine Bar in Ranelagh confirms its place in our 2014 highlight list. An array of wines by the glass, great food
Outside of Ireland, one of my top meals this year (and in fact ever) was at Facil in Berlin. A 2 michelin star restaurant, simply incredible. And at a much more casual level, Burger & Lobster London – with its short &sweet menu of exactly that – burger or lobster, was a hit.
Back home, we enjoyed a lovely few days at Castlemartyr Resort in East Cork, truly relaxing, a stunning hotel and a ‘staycation’ (I hate that word!) we really loved!
So here’s to 2015, we are starting it off as we mean to go on, leaving for London on New Years Eve, a few days to enjoy all the food and drink scene London has to offer us! We were the lucky recipients of some restaurant vouchers over the Christmas so will line up a few places to see us through the dreariness of January and February!
Happy New Year everyone and thanks for reading along on Gin & Griddle.
