Yesterday evening, I went along with a couple of friends from work to check out the new place on Bath Avenue – The Old Spot. This isn’t a review as such, it’s only open a few days but just my thoughts and some pictures from our visit.
Formerly The Lansdowne, and now with the same people as The Bath, it has been completely refurbished and redecorated – now its warm & has a comfortable feel – lots of dark leather, tartan, wood, soft lighting… I really liked the atmosphere both in the bar and restaurant part.
We had a bottle (or 4) of The Paddocks Shiraz during our evening, a nice choice from their wine list at €28. We took seats in the restaurant, in one of the nice big tartan booths, and enjoyed olives, spiced nuts while we waited for our food. We were looking for easy casual food so went for burgers and ribs.
The burger was delicious (and big!), and the chips, perfect little skinny frites – so good! The ribs, which at first seemed like too big a challenge were all demolished! The ribs came with a slaw and something called ”chicharrons” – unsure that this was we were told it was ‘like chips’… its not like chips…nice but definitely not like chips!
As we were 3 people in a big booth, and had finished eating, and we had offered to move out to bar should they need the table, we relocated to the bar area with our wine. This is bad photo but the flooring in the bar is pretty fabulous
Overall a really enjoyable evening, at a great new spot, The Old Spot!
