Ravine Vineyard, St. Davids Bench

While in Canada this summer we visited Ravine Vineyard a few times, for wine tasting, Lunch and dinner. It offers something a little different to a lot of the other vineyards and wineries in this area – the restaurant is more casual, rustic feeling… we loved it, gorgeous food, great setting, really nice staff.

TOCA, Ritz Carlton, Toronto

Whilst in Toronto, it was Simon’s birthday and a birthday needs a decadent lunch! I booked a table for 2 at TOCA  in the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Toronto. A luxurious hotel from the moment you enter, a sweeping staircase brings you to TOCA on the mezzanine floor. The menu is based on Italian cuisine, it’s seasonal and local and…

Canoe, 54th Floor – TD Bank Tower, Toronto

The view from the bar in Canoe is one of my favourites … looking out over the water across the Toronto islands, with the City Airport (Billy Bishop Airport), sailing boats and just a gorgeous perspective from the 54th floor. Such a lovely spot to sip a gin martini…

Niagara on the Lake & The Bench – Ontario Wineries, Canada

You may not know this but there’s a wonderful wine region in Canada – on both sides of the country. We love Toronto, a city we return to time and time again. An hour out the QEW from Toronto and you are into wine land, the Twenty Valley, the Beamsville Bench and onto Niagara…

Toronto Part 3: Brunch at ViaVai (& a little shopping!)

Our first full day in Toronto and we fancied a nice brunchy kind of lunch so with a bit of pre-holiday research I had booked us into Via Vai for their weekend brunch. A brand new restaurant, soaring glass, artwork and a great menu. Previously an art gallery, Via Vai is now a wonderful pizzeria restaurant and wine bar with…

Toronto Part 2: Review ~ The Chase Fish & Oyster, Toronto

Downtown Toronto on a Sunday evening can be tricky – the restaurants are geared and aimed at business so Sunday is often a day off. But we did come across The Chase and booked in for dinner. Located in a 19th century building on Temperance Street, The Chase is essentially 2 spaces, on the top…

Toronto Part 1: The Distillery District & Lunch at Pure Spirits Oyster House & Grill

The Distillery District in Toronto is where you will find great restaurants, boutiques, galleries, studios, cafes, shops. A pedestrian only village of restored red brick, Victorian-era buildings of the Gooderham & Worts whiskey distillery. It’s just a short streetcar ride from downtown Toronto; we took the eastbound 504 King streetcar to Parliament Street and it’s just a…

Lyrath Estate Hotel, Kilkenny

Having stayed in Lyrath for the first time, many years ago, just after it opened, we had always meant to return. It took us a while but we made it a few weeks back. We booked a ‘luxury suite’ for a  2 night pre-Easter break and it was a truly lovely mini holiday and time together. So…

Afternoon Tea at Lyrath, Kilkenny

While enjoying our stay at Lyrath Estate Hotel we indulged in Afternoon Tea. After a morning in the spa, luxuriating in the gorgeous indoor / outdoor hydrotherapy pool, sauna and relaxing room, we had forgone lunch to be able to really make the most of Afternoon Tea.

Hunter’s Hotel, Wicklow

Hunter’s Hotel, so traditional, perhaps old fashioned, but charmingly and perfectly so. We had the loveliest of stays at Hunter’s Hotel recently. Touches like the real fireplace in our room, the quaint bar and the cosy feeling make me very happy. Hunter’s is the oldest coaching inn in Ireland, dating from the 1600s and is 200 years…

Travel ~ A Weekend in Seville, Spain

A beautiful city with gorgeous little parks, winding streets and cobbled alleyways. Cute cafes and tapas bars dot the old town, up and down these narrow streets and large plazas. I travelled with my friend Joan for a long weekend and we based ourselves in the Barrio De Santa Cruz area – a great spot from…
