Breakfast at Balfes, Dublin

I had a day off work and a few things to do in town so I jumped on the luas into town early, and started my day with breakfast at Balfes. I had been here for drinks but never food so was keen to try it. Located next to and part of The Westbury Hotel, Balfes is an all day day dining / drinking restaurant, from breakfast right through to bar bites and dinner.

With my kindle for company, I took a seat on one of the high tables in the front part of Balfes. They have a nice terrace patio to the front of the restaurant also with tables and I toyed with sitting outside but it was slightly chilly so decided on inside this time. Most of my fellow breakfast diners were people at business meetings.

The breakfast menu has lots of options, something small like a croissant or toast, lots of egg dishes, pancakes, porridge, granola and muesli. There’s a definite focus on healthy breakfast options here (Bodybyrne menu items). I decided to have the Scrambled eggs & dry cured bacon with sourdough (€8.50) and added avocado to this. And a flat white coffee to enjoy with my breakfast.

The breakfast was very tasty, especially the eggs and avocado. The bacon wasn’t as crispy as I’d have liked so next time I’d request that. Delicious sourdough toast makes the perfect accompaniment to eggs, bacon & avocado. The coffee tasted a little strange, I’m not sure what it was but something wasn’t right there. As I had a coffee on my way into town, I had a few sips and left it. I wasn’t asked and didn’t offer any feedback at the time as really it wasn’t a big deal for me at the time. I would think their coffee is normally good and assume this was a blip!

I enjoyed breakfast at Balfes and I’d like to try it for lunch or dinner. A lovely way to start the day!
