Casual, easy, good food, nice people and a great restaurant. Put Bar Tomate on your list if you are visiting Madrid. Try the caprese salad pizza, a pizza base with mozzarella, tomato and basil layered on top – really gorgeous! A great wine list, beers, tasty tapas – croquettes, artichokes, seafood…
Michelin star dining doesn’t come much better than this in my view. The setting is superb, simple yet luxe and the food incredible. I ate well, enjoyed two glasses of red wine, a large bottle of water and including a tip my bill was €62. I don’t think I could replicate the quality of food and experience many other places. I was dining on my own and the menu is set up more for 2+ so they made smaller versions of the dishes for me. La Cabra doesn’t open until 9pm so get your siesta in during the day!
Some of the dishes I ate – Vegetable Chromaticism; Potato, Egg & Barbecue; Patrridge Airbag with French Curry; Lamb Gyozas and the Fish of the Day (Hake) with mushroom.
This is the place all the beautiful people go… lots of very stylish locals and the odd tourist, it’s lively, loud music, lots of atmosphere and fun. I was there with a group and we had a set menu. Everything we ate was delicious… we shared dishes to start – Iberian ham ‘joselito’, tomato salad with bonito, achovies, artichokes, calamari. And a main course choice of oven baked black cod or Spanish filet mignon. Dessert was a choice of custard with meringue or chocolate cake.

For great Japanese food in Madrid and a pretty cool setting too, the table was made up of screens, it was bright and fun. The food was great, good wine list and a nice vibe. Miso soup, edamame, sushi, chicken, rice… and a delicious albarino to accompany the food.
