One of the best meals I have had … it was simply spectacular, truly authentic Chinese food. Located on Cathedral Street, off O’Connell Street, M&L Chinese Restaurant is an unassuming little spot and the exterior belies the amazing food you will find inside. I can only encourage you to go try it out, be adventurous, the welcoming and friendly staff will help you out if you want advice. It’s not fancy, but the food certainly is…
We visited M&L Chinese as a group of 4, its nice when you have a bigger group for Chinese than just 2, so you can try more dishes!
We ordered a couple of Tsingtao Rice beers, a bottle of white wine and bottle of red to enjoy with all of the lovely food, and a basked of prawn crackers arrived to the table too, to help with the decision process on the food!
We started with 3 dishes, deep fried sweetcorn in egg yolk (a revelation of deliciousness!), pork dumpings (each of us would go back JUST for these alone!) and a more traditional roast duck peking style, with pancakes, vegetables and a sauce…. each dish was amazing but the duck with pancakes got lost amongst the phenomenal dumplings and corn.
Onto the mains, we chose another 3 dishes – whole, on the bone deep fried seabass with chilli & garlic sauce, stir fried french beans with chilli, served ‘chinese style’ with pork, and stir fried chopped duck & vegetables in a medium spicy sauce. All accompanied by sides of boiled rice, fried rice and noodles.
Of these dishes, the green beans were a standout, salty chilli pork flavours, simply gorgeous dish. The seabass was sweet garlicy and sticky and really good. The duck stir fry was so full of flavour, spicy yet not too much, and just lovely with the noodles.
Each dish at M&L Chinese is so well balanced, flavours of salt, sweet and spicy. And quite the bargain, all of the food we ate and the drinks came to an extremely reasonably €128 for the 4 of us…for all of that food. We don’t tend to venture across the Liffey that much, with where we live we are more frequent visitors to places like Ranelagh, Donnybrook, south side of the city. But for M&L Chinese I'[ll be crossing that river a bit more…
