In London for work for a few days, I left the hotel early one morning, in search of a coffee and something to eat and a few minutes to read on my Kindle before the madness commenced. I walked from the hotel, down Curzon Street as I knew there was a couple of coffee places that way and I came across Benugo…
Benugo was founded by 2 brothers, Ben and Hugo, in 1998 and their 1st place was in Clerkenwell. It grew from there, through the 2000s, with more cafes, restaurants, including ones located in museums, trains stations and historical buildings. Benugo has won a few awards too, including recently being London’s Best Coffee Shop at the London Lifestyle Awards.
So there’s the background, onto the important stuff!
I visited Benugo on Curzon Street in Mayfair. The space is somewhat industrial in style but warm and welcoming too, with wooden floors and counter tops, wood and metal tables and chairs, metal lighting exposed, blackboards with the sandwich and soup menus. Counters line the windows so you can sit on a stool and watch the world go by…
Ordered my flat white and the tills and picked a gorgeous looking pain au raisin to go with it. I took my pastry to the counter at one of the windows and my coffee was delivered to me a couple of minutes later.
I really loved the feel and vibe of the place, it was busy without being overly so, it just felt nice and comfortable with GOOD coffee and food!
Lunchtime rolled around in our team ops room at the hotel, I offered to go get lunch for the team and knew that Benugo would be a hit. Handily the menu is online (like all places should have!) so I was able to print it off, and have the team mark what they wanted, walk over and collect it all.
It was so efficient to pick up the 6 sandwiches, crisps, salads, soups … bagged up and back to the hotel. Unfortunately we were all so ravenous nobody paused to let me photograph the food!
